How is the course taught and assessed?

The CPCS A16 Industrial Forklift course is delivered to the student with an arrangement of both practical and classroom lessons. Assessments are carried out in both areas of study. The course provides the student with the knowledge and understanding to complete the CPCS Practical and Theory Tests.

Who should take this course?

Individuals who have received no previous training to operate an Industrial Forklift. The course is also suitable as a refresher programme for existing operators.

What qualification will I receive?

Candidates who successfully complete this CPCS A16 course plus the CPCS technical tests, will be presented with a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Entry requirements

A good level of understanding of both spoken and written English is required. Prior to application for this course, a candidate is required to have achieved completion of a CITB Health, Safety and Environment test (HS&E) in the previous 2 years.

  • Knowledge of the controls, the construction and the main components of an Industrial Forklift
  • Operators’ handbook, current legislation and regulations
  • Pre-use safety checks
  • How to arrange for travelling and manoeuvring effectively and safely in small spaces
  • Hazard understanding of underground and overhead services
  • Awareness of relocation of loads at different locations, heights and volumes
  • Methods of safe removal and placing of loads
  • Maintenance of safe and tidy working locations
  • Ability to shut down and secure measures
  • Safe loading and unloading of machine for transportation
