The content of this course follows the details of the National Occupational Standards for Health and Safety. Developed by the Skills Council, it puts in place basic standards for health & safety and for employers that need to adhere to this code of practice. It is also suitable for those working within the public sector or engineering.
The course is assessed in two ways; the first two units are covered by a written exam. They are then marked by NEBOSH external examiners. The third unit is assessed via a practical exam which will take place at the candidate’s place of work. It tests their application of the necessary health & safety standards in a practical real-site environment. This final section must be taken within 10 days of the written exam and will be administered by NEBOSH. You can take these units separately but will not obtain a certificate of completion until all units have been passed successfully.
Once exams have been passed successfully, you will receive a National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health. This compares to a Level 3 NQF in the UK and Level 6 SNQF in Scotland i.e. A level standard.
After completion, a lot of students move on to take their National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
There are no official requirements for entry but you need good English and to have some experience of working as a manager or supervisor.
